There are many types of spa and hot tub equipment, so the information here may be a little generalized, but we'll give you a good starting point. We have other sites, which are linked here, about swimming pools, liners, covers, repairs, and much more, but here, we will just focus on the basics of everyday spa care, repair and maintenance.
Usually, a competent spa repairman can diagnose spa and hot tub problems pretty quickly, sometimes even over the phone, when given the right information. Some helpful information to have handy would be the brand, model, approximate age of the spa, and, most importantly, specifically what is wrong. Sometimes, we have people who call for someone else, and all they really know is that it doesn't work. All the repairman can do in that case is to make a service call, to determine the problem.
Many modern spas and hot tubs have at least limited diagnostics built in, and will give an error code on the display. If the display isn't working, that narrows the set of. probabilities, as well. If the display is working, and gives an error like " SN1 ", that tells the technician that there is a sensor error. Usually, these codes are explained in the spa owner's manual, so if you have it, the first thing you should do before calling a repairman is to consult the owner's manual, and try the suggested remedies. That is exactly what the technician is going to do, the only difference is, the technician already knows the remedies to try, and in what order.
One example of this is a " FLO" error. Sometimes this is caused by a more serious problem, but often it as simple as needing to clean the filter. When there is a lack of sufficient water flow, the spa will not heat. So, of course, the first step, if the built in diagnostics indicate a flow error, is always to make sure the filter is clean. That is the first thing a spa repairman will do if you pay for a service call!
